Goldenfry is Yorkshire through and through and is still a family business today after 70 years of food history. Based in Yorkshire, or as we call it ‘God’s Own Country’, we produce products we want to eat. They taste grand and don’t cost the earth, because let’s face it, we all know that splashing out doesn’t always get you the tastiest deals, especially where food is concerned. We keep it simple and tasty, which is what our loyal, savvy customers know and understand. We’re about honest food, at an honest price.
Goldenfry was started some 70 years ago and we’re immensely proud of our long heritage. Our founder Ken Herridge was a pilot in the RAF for 6 years in the Second World War. When he returned home he decided to open a fish and chip shop in his beloved Wetherby. People kept asking for the recipe for Ken’s epic batter, which was light, crispy and full of flavour. He saw an opportunity to develop a retail batter mix and went for it. It was a huge success and soon local independent grocers and fishmongers began to sell his product too. He then began to develop new and innovative products which offered time-strapped cooks a helping hand with proper home cooked meals, including the first gravy mix that didn’t require the addition of meat juices.
Ken passed on his love of food and Wetherby to his sons and the business has since gone from strength to strength whilst maintaining its manufacturing base in Wetherby. The company today holds true to its good values of offering wholesome, great tasting food accompaniments to give people a bit of help at mealtimes, without scrimping on flavour.
Over the decades Goldenfry has grown to become a leading supplier of meal accompaniments to the UK grocery retail and wholesale markets and long may it continue, because getting the best taste doesn’t always mean flashing the cash, it means having great taste and knowing what you like.
